The mining investment flame continues to weaken according to CommSec report. The State of NSW continues to enjoy robust population growth and the housing construction figures are on the way up.

NSW also enjoys the high retail trade with supportive business investment and lower unemployment.

A senior analyst was noted as saying. The Premier of NSW was heard to say on radio recently that his state is leading the way in Infrastructure spending and housing sector growth. When we first came into government the focus we had was to get housing moving and to get infrastructure moving - both of those have played a key role, he said. The nations most populous state rose from third place, knocking WA into second and the Northern Territory into third, ahead of Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, the ACT and Tasmania. Australia’s States and Territories are rated on a number of key indicators, including such items as retail spending, housing finance and population growth economic growth, unemployment.

We see NSW revelling in high population growth with associated housing demand. The simple reason for the lift in the rankings by NSW is housing, economists said.

It is also noted that Victorias continued population growth was propping up its housing market and construction, but it lags behind most states in engineering and commercial activity.

Queenslands high unemployment is weighing it down, despite strong non-residential building activity and business investment.

WA lost ground due to weaker retail trade, equipment investment and population growth, all linked to dwindling mining investment.
