BEACON HILL RESOURCES PLC - HARD COKING COAL POTENTIAL OF MINAS MOATIZE COAL CONFIRMED

Beacon Hill Resources Plc / Ticker: BHR / Index: AIM / Sector: Mining 13 September 2011 Beacon Hill Resources Plc (Beacon Hill or the Group) Hard Coking Coal Potential of Minas Moatize Coking Coal Confirmed Beacon Hill, the AIM listed coking coal producer, is pleased to announce results from recent coke tests undertaken on coal samples from large diameter drill cores attained from its wholly owned Minas Moatize coal mine (Minas Moatize) in the Tete region of Mozambique, which classify the coal as Hard Coking Coal. Overview
* Coke Strength after Reaction results classify Minas Moatize coal as Hard Coking Coal * Development of Minas Moatize coal mine progressing with production of first washed coking coal planned to commence in 2012 Following a small scale pilot carbonisation test undertaken by ALS Group in Ipswich, Australia, coking coal from Minas Moatize was classified as Hard Coking Coal.

The Coke Strength after Reaction (CSR) range of 68 to 71 is similar to the hard coking coal produced from Queensland, Australia.

Hard Coking Coal trades at a premium to other coals due to its limited resources and importance in producing strong coke.
Beacon Hill continues to make solid progress at Minas Moatize with production building from the initial open pit mine, Trial Pit 1.

Initial volumes of coal are currently being trucked by road to be stockpiled at the Groups warehousing facility at the Port of Beira in readiness for its maiden export shipment, which is targeted before the end of 2011.

Mining from the main open-pit mine is on target to commence in the first half of 2012, building up to a run-of-mine of 4Mtpa producing 2.35Mtpa of saleable coal for export and domestic markets. Justin Lewis, Chairman of Beacon Hill commented, "We are very encouraged by the results of the recent coke test analysis, which supports our earlier suggestion that coal to be produced from Minas Moatize will be a premium Hard Coking Coal." **ENDS** For further information on the Company, visit www.bhrplc.com or contact: Justin Lewis Chairman, Beacon Hill Resources Plc +61 (0) 3 9627 9910 +61 439 162 369 John Prior Collins Stewart Europe Limited +44 (0) 20 7523 8350 Adam Miller Collins Stewart Europe Limited +44 (0) 20 7523 8350 Jeremy Wrathall Renaissance Capital Ltd +44 (0) 20 7367 8273 Hugo de Salis St Brides Media & Finance Ltd +44 (0) 20 7236 1177 Susie Geliher St Brides Media & Finance Ltd +44 (0) 20 7236 1177

Coke needs to be strong to support the iron ore and coke mix above it in the blast furnace.

Generally a high CSR indicate a strong coke. Premium Hard Coking Coal is the most valuable form of coal produced.

The current price of hard coking coal from Australia is approximately $276.50 per tonne (Platts Hard Coking Coal (Premium Low Vol) FOB Australia, 12 September 2011) and it is planned to produce in excess of 900,000 tonnes per annum of coking coal from the Minas Moatize Coal mine.. The coal quality information in the announcement has been reviewed by Peter Gunn, who is a Member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Managing Director of Coal Marketing International Pty Ltd, a specialist coal consultant.
